In honor of the day today the children used Adobe Photoshop to make their own "Haunted Mansions". They had step by step directions to follow to open a picture, transform the perspective, convert to black and white and adjust the intensities, crop and then save the project as a jpeg. I was so impressed with their hard work!

The kindergarten class read the story and made Stone Soup this week. To extend the activity in tech class they watched a short version of the story on our tech class website and then they were asked to draw a picture from the story using our KidPix software. It was tricky for some of our children, but everyone gave it a go!
Today we learned a little about Impressionist Artists and then some editing elements of Adobe Photoshop to create our own "Impressionist Paintings" After viewing a Google image search of Impressionist work, students had several nature photographs to choose from and then working on photoshopping them to get them into a Impressionist mood. After that, the students posted them on their student blogs and wrote about the process. Finally the students were invited to peer review each others posts. The third grade enjoyed a rather harrowing game of Who Wants to Be a Mathionaire – Rounding Master. The room was full of nail biting anxiety as we used all of our lifelines to get to the $1,000,000 question. The cheers filled the room when we finally answered the final round correctly. The students then continued to hone their rounding skills on a variety of other internet based rounding practice. The second grade class used the computer program Inspiration to create Venn Diagrams comparing and contrasting Frogs and Toads. They had to follow several steps to open the template, type in their information, format it and save their work. I love watching how proficient these young people are becoming in technology class. The fourth grade students worked in pairs preparing to read and video a children's book. They were asked to create a video that would last about 2-3 minutes and their target audience was junior kindergarten students.
