Students created an Acrostic Poem using the word Pumpkin.
First they used a template and drafted the poem. Then they did a Google search for a pumpkin picture to capture and insert in their poem. Once their first poem was created, they worked on a second version of the same poem. This time they searched for a graphic for each letter and worked on formatting printed words with inserted pictures using the text wrap feature. They were really enjoying the creative aspect of this project.

The third graders were learning how to use Word Art in word as well as insert pictures and use text wrap. They enjoyed learning these skills as they researched some fun Halloween costumes. As always, they are required to save each project in our student drive as they learn a logical way to save, file and retrieve files for future use. Students worked with text boxes to create a personal timeline. In addition to typing in text boxes, they inserted arrows and changed the background color. They were also encouraged to add color to the text boxes and play with the fonts. These skills are fun, but they will be very beneficial in the classroom when they are creating documents for Mrs. K. Student began with taking a survey with their class and the 6th graders asking for every one's favorite school subject. They recorded their data on a tally chart. Then they started using their knowledge they already have to create an excel document and save it correctly in the proper place. We used a bar graph to show the data and talked about how to name the chart and the axis if they chose a chart that included that. Then they learned how to search a picture that represented their favorite subject and capture it to put on their document. Finally, they did a final save as a pdf. I am so excited to see their skills growing and so many are bringing me in charts and graphs that they are making at home using what we have learned in class! Middle School students are going to be working on 21 Things 4 Students this year. As we are beginning with the basics, we spent some class time discussing Quest 5: Safe & Secure. Students had some really good input and included real life experiences. We went over our school Acceptable Use Policy and I was impressed with the depth of our discussion. This is really a fantastic group of middle school students.
