NASA Ambassador Gerry Chevrier returned to ECA this week to share his knowledge with our JK, Kindergarten, first, third and fourth grade students. The children were engaged and excited about the presentations. Mr. Gerry was very impressed with some of the knowledge many of the students already possessed. He was also able to answer the many questions they had for him! Check out some of their questions as well as the answers. Mr. Gerry’s Answer: Jupiter is only the biggest planet in our Solar System. Question: What makes the red spot on Jupiter? – JT 1st grade Mr. Gerry’s Answer: The red spot is caused by a giant storm. Question: Is Mars the hottest planet because of the Volcano? Diego kindergarten Mr. Gerry’s Answer: No, Mercury is the hottest planet because it is closest to the sun. Question: Could they [supernovas] push all the planets? – Daniel kindergarten Mr. Gerry’s Answer: Yes they could indeed! Question: If you took your helmet off on this planet [pointing to Saturn] would your head froze? Diego kindergarten Mr. Gerry’s Answer: Yes, you would freeze on Saturn. Question: Are comets hot when they go through space? – Autumn 4rd grade Mr. Gerry’s Answer: No, they are icy dirt balls! Question: If Betelgeuse [one of the largest suns in our galaxy] blew up would we see it? – Zackary 3rd grade Mr. Gerry’s Answer: Yes, absolutely! Question: Don’t people think Europa [one of Jupiter’s moons] has life under the ice? Spencer 4th grade Mr. Gerry’s Answer: Yes, indeed. Question: What is the biggest sun? – Spencer 4th grade Mr. Gerry’s Answer: Antares is the biggest sun that we know of. Question: Do all planets spin while they go around the sun? – Julian 4th grade Mr. Gerry’s Answer: Yes they do.
