Today it was so wonderful to see how the MakerSpace has become the heart of our building. The first picture shows the middle school students doing science research, the 3rd graders working on a STEM building/coding project and some junior kindergartners using the library area and others using the engineering toys.

5th and up were asked to record a brief message on Flipgrid to answer the question "Why is STEM fun?" They were also asked to brainstorm other ways to use flipgrid which some of the students use this topic to share as well. Click here to hear what the students had to say. The next part of our Global Project was to research facts about Michigan, and recorded clues using the Flipgrid app to share with our new friends - to see if they can guess where in the world we are. It is fun making new friends and learning from them. We already have some responses with a challenge to figure out their clues and guess where they are from!
The 5th graders are exploring a variety of materials to MAKE in the MakerSpace. Now that we have tried the 3D pens and the wood burners, we are hoping for a few more, as their is a line to use them. The sewing station has been very interesting as well. On Saturday, some of our Rising Stars went to a team training in Waterford. They attended several different workshops. In one, they worked with another partial team to create a quick tower with paper (no tape). They used the folding trick they learned during last weeks DI meeting! In the instant challenge workshop, they had to build a structure that went under AND over the "bridge" without touching it. They earned extra points because their structure could also hold all the weights. We had a lot of fun and are so excited about the upcoming season! |
