The middle school students created maker proposals this month. They researched and submitted their idea on what they wanted to work on. Students choose wood burning projects, 3D Pen projects, stop motion projects, sewing projects and soldering sculpture projects. As they have finished they have been assisting classmates or choosing new activities. They love the freedom and choices and I love the creativity and skill building.

Today the fourth graders connected with a group of 3rd graders to contribute to a discussion: What is the most important cultural universal: food, water, shelter or health/safety? The researched and took notes and then recorded their position on a flipgrid. This project made researching fun and interactive. 5th and up were asked to record a brief message on Flipgrid to answer the question "Why is STEM fun?" They were also asked to brainstorm other ways to use flipgrid which some of the students use this topic to share as well. Click here to hear what the students had to say. The next part of our Global Project was to research facts about Michigan, and recorded clues using the Flipgrid app to share with our new friends - to see if they can guess where in the world we are. It is fun making new friends and learning from them. We already have some responses with a challenge to figure out their clues and guess where they are from!
The fourth graders have completed their public service announcements relating to stopping animal abuse and neglect. Students researched facts and use Adobe.Spark to create their videos. They worked in their classroom on their chromebooks during class time and STEM time.
The first graders were delighted to use their rhyming skills to create new verses for the old classic Down by the Bay. Children used MS Paint to add text (a very tricky task) and then to illustrate if they had time. They really loved recording themselves singing their verses - and we hope you love them too!
You can listen by clicking on the play button, or if you double click it will open the video in youtube.
Using Chromebooks, the first graders worked in small groups to create their first stop motion animation movies. They began with a story, created a set, took countless pictures and finally added their audio. We got to use a new tool and app that was a little challenging, but it sure was fun!
First grade is entering their second week of their animation project. Students put on some finishing touches to their backdrops and started filming this week. We are using a new stop motion animation app on the chromebooks that has been a little tricky to master, but so far, the first graders are handling the challenge like champs!
First grade students began researching stop motion animation this week. They broke into groups and started creating a story with a beginning, middle and end and a few characters. Today, they got their background boards so they could begin creating their story background. Loved the intense involvement. They are super excited about this project!
