The third graders wrapped up their xylophones and are working on remixing the code on a xylophone program or coding their own music programs on Scratch. This is such a fun extension of their science unit on electricity.

The first graders designed, created and presented their own Thanksgiving Day Parade Floats. They came to the MakerSpace with their designs drawn and used our STEM time and MakerSpace materials to make their creations. When they finished, they presented their holiday floats to their peers. The Second Grade students enjoyed getting familiar with the Maker Tables in our MakerSpace today. They worked on a STEAM (Science Technology Engineering ART Math) project and enjoyed themselves very much! Our middle school students are collaborating with STEM, Social Studies, Language Arts and Art to make a giant tree for their classroom which will tie into many areas of study this year. They helped imagine a design that Mr. Gamache was kind enough to build and bring for the students to begin working on. Students learned how to make their own paper mache paste and are learning the best techniques to using the medium. More to come as the project progresses... 5th -8th grade students enjoyed a Skype conversation with middle school students from Ottawa, Canada. Students talked a little bit about our schools and the weather...our students were shocked it was 14 degrees there and they were shocked it was 61 degrees here...it provided a little lesson on Celsius and Fahrenheit. Finally, the students shared their art pieces which are part of a global project. It was a wonderful experience.
Mrs. M and I have begun a school-wide STEAM project. We are participating in the Global Awesome Squiggles Collaborative Art Project 2017. Students from grades kindergarten through middle school are creating art based on the same four squiggles as hundreds of classrooms world-wide. Fourth grade and up will also try their hand at creating digital art with the template. We will be sharing the students artwork in a variety of ways using various technology. A few of the classes will take it a step farther as we connect with classrooms around the world via skype, twitter, facebook, etc. We are so excited to be a part of this huge project! The first grade groups did a little rewiring to include a battery holder and a power switch to their existing doodlebot. On= Closed Circuit Off= Open Circuit First graders have been busy adding to their circuit robots! Come check out their robots' special abilities at Science Night.
