The next part of our Global Project was to research facts about Michigan, and recorded clues using the Flipgrid app to share with our new friends - to see if they can guess where in the world we are. It is fun making new friends and learning from them. We already have some responses with a challenge to figure out their clues and guess where they are from!

The third graders are continuing working on the coding and MakeyMakey projects. This time, they are making game controllers in any way they want. They are developing a variety of games that these controllers can interact with. It's fun to see the creative juices flowing!
The fourth graders have completed their public service announcements relating to stopping animal abuse and neglect. Students researched facts and use Adobe.Spark to create their videos. They worked in their classroom on their chromebooks during class time and STEM time.
The third graders wrapped up their xylophones and are working on remixing the code on a xylophone program or coding their own music programs on Scratch. This is such a fun extension of their science unit on electricity.
During our STEM time the second graders explored our Ozobots, Wonder Bot, Green Screen Center as well as several other engineering free-build activities. We can't wait to pick up where we left off! The third grade students explored closing a circuit using our MakeyMakeys and Chromebooks. First we closed the circuit by holding hands, next they worked in groups using their bodies and play-dough to close the circuits and make the program work. The fourth and the fifth grades are learning how to create spreadsheets using Microsoft Office. Both classes are doing a similar activity where they use a budget and select items and then use autosum to add. The fifth graders are learning how to create a formula. They are learning how to find the difference - or subtract. In this instance, they are finding the difference between their budget and the total spent. All students are working on creating a graph and customizing it. They are doing a great job! Our Kindergarten and first grade classes have been the first to try out one of our new STEM "toys", the Code-a-pillar. They are great for problem solving, planning and sequencing and critical thinking. Working in small groups the children piloted some activities with the plan that they may be able to introduce those activities to younger students within the MakerSpace and create challenges for them. In these videos they were exploring and predicting. As they put different direction pieces onto the Code-a-pillar they then predicted where the creature would end up. They had a great time in our Makerspace!
2nd grade is utilizing our school Chromebooks in their classroom. They have been finding them useful for research in several projects they are working on.
