Students 5th through 8th grades went to Applewood Estate in Flint for a STEM field trip. Students made observations about the MSU weather station and visited the online weather station extension. Students compared and contrasted old technology and engineering with the new technology that currently on the estate. Students worked in groups to create solar heaters using simple materials. Perhaps the favorite activity, was eating applecake made from apples picked on the estate. Finally, we wrapped up our visit to Flint with a quick visit to the Farmer's Market. Students helped teachers pick out fresh produce, bread, cream and honey which they enjoyed sampling the following school day.
